Our country's way of dealing with trash has left us with landfills full of toxic and hard-to-dispose-of items. In fact, producers are designing products to be thrown away and municipalities and taxpayers are picking up the tab.
A producer responsibility policy will provide a way to deal with hazardous and hard-to-dispose-of items such as CFLs, paint, and packaging, creating more efficient and transparent processes and reducing our overall waste.
When manufacturers are responsible for recycling and end-of-life management of their products, it encourages good product design, cuts costs for taxpayers, and creates green jobs.
Now is the time -- Tell your government that you support producer responsibility in Rhode Island!
