MI 2012 Midterm Legislative Scorecard

MI_Scorecard01 17 12a page 2.jpg

Read the Scorecard!

the heroes and zeroes in the state house

In 2011, the majority in the current legislature added a new twist to this Lansing environmental doublespeak. Instead of simply opposing stronger protections like those proposed in Clean Water Action’s 2011 Water Protection Agenda, state lawmakers sought to dismantle our existing protections, often under the banner of “job creation.”

"Highlights" from the scorecard include:

  • 67 Legislators who receieved a failing grade
  • 58 Legislators who scored "0"
  • House Leadership passed H.R. 136 - a symbolic vote in favor of the recently rejected Keystone XL Pipeline
  • The Legislature failed to advance any of the safeguards outlined in our 2011 Water Protection Agenda

Read our press release and download the full scorecard here. Then join the fight for our clean water progress and email Nic Clark to find out what you can do to hold our legislators accountable!

Everglades for All

Cover image: Everglades for Al, 2010In March 2010, Clean Water Fund released Everglades for All.

Over 1,500 Florida residents participated in our survey which was intended to get a pulse on how the public and diverse constituency groups feel about ongoing outreach and historic Everglades restoration efforts.

This survey revealed new opportunities for relationship building and will hopefully increase public input on key decisions in Everglades restoration.

Abstract:

Over 1,500 Florida residents participated in our survey which was intended to get a pulse on how the public and diverse constituency groups feel about ongoing outreach and historic Everglades restoration efforts.

Big Stone II: A Big Mistake

Problems with Big Stone II

  • It's destructive: Big Stone II and global warming
  • It's expensive: impact of emerging global warming laws on costs of Big Stone II
  • It's not needed: wind-based alternatives can meet energy needs better
