Andy Fellows, Chesapeake Regional Director

Victor Ukpolo, Chesapeake Program Organizer

I’m Victor Ukpolo Jr., a former canvasser for Clean Water Action out of its’ Baltimore office. I canvassed with Clean Water Action four to five years, while attending Morgan State University. I got my itch for clean water, as a result of an interest in science, specifically clean water processes and technology. I was a science geek who did a project in high school modeling Baltimore’s water filtration system. This project did not make me any cooler in school, but it did plant the seed for future clean water activities.

Being brought up in an urban environment, I’ve experienced living in socially and economically challenging situations; therefore, like many others, I seek to make a difference on some issue. I choose the environment. My mantra is that your community is your environment. Working to address urban blight, or other environmental issues not only preserves natural resources, but is necessarily good for community.

I am currently a Clean Water Fund organizer working in Anacostia communities (Maryland and District of Columbia) to restore the Anacostia River to health. This monumental task includes, but is not limited to reducing toxic discharges, stream bank erosion, localized flooding, and participating in and helping to organize community development activities.
