Four Decades

40 Years of Action for Clean Water

Hello, Eagles Fans!

Stand with Clean Water and Penn's Woods!

Woodie4thofJuly_0806.JPGIt's a real honor to be here with other Eagles fans on Game Day! We are excited to give you a chance to tell you a little about our work protecting the environment. Clean Water Action has been working in Southeast PA for over 20 years, working to make sure polluters pay their fair share and the environment is able to protect public health. Over the last 100 years, we have been able to regrow much of the forests lost to lumber industry, so that Penn's Woods are once again cleaning up our air and filtering our water, but they have a new threat: natural gas drilling.

Send a message to Governor Corbett Today!

In October, 2010, Governor Rendell signed an Executive Order halting any further leasing of our public lands to private companies for natural gas drilling. His move recognized the incredible scenic and economic value provided by the forests the state owns. The Order would not stop drilling in our public lands altogether since over a third of these lands - 725,000 acres - have already been leased to private drilling companies. That is already  too much - the forests can't handle even one more lease.

So far, Governor Corbett has not ended the moratorium (though he had said he would). He claims that one of his first acts as governor will be to lift Rendell's moratorium on new leases. Send a letter to Governor Corbett telling him why Pennsylvania's public lands are important to you, and asking him to protect the remaining two thirds from drilling.

1122986588_1272543d30lr.jpgThe Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, our state's official agency charged with maintaining our public lands, has said as much; they say that there are zero remaining acres in the state forest system that are suitable for drilling. If we don't take a stand and demand that our public lands be preserved, who will?

Join us in sending a message to Governor Corbett that asks him to uphold the moratorium on additional leasing of public lands for gas drilling. Please customize the letter below with your thoughts on why these lands are important.

Thanks for taking some time with us. Have a great game. Go, Eagles!
