Write to your state senator: urge a New Year's resolution for safe chemicals

Write To Senator

From all of us at Clean Water Action, Happy New Year!

The Massachusetts legislative session resumed this week, and protection from toxic chemicals should be a top priority for senators in 2012.

Please write your state senator and ask him or her to make a New Year's resolution to pass the Safer Alternatives Bill.

Senators will have thousands of bills to choose from this year. Let's make the Safer Alternatives Bill one of the first to grab their attention as they return to the State House.

Take Action: National Call-in Day for Safe Chemicals

Senator Brown, be our HeroToday parents, nurses, doctors, college students, and people like you are calling their Senators to ask for common sense limits on toxic chemicals. Join the fun, it only takes two minutes!

What You Can Do:

Massachusetts residents, call Senator Scott Brown and Senator John Kerry's Washington DC Offices (if you're from another state, call your own Senator!). A friendly staff member will answer the phone, or you’ll be asked to leave a message. Please ask our Massachusetts Senators to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act and let them know what city or town you live in. Then report your call to us so that we can keep track.

Senator Brown: (202) 224-4543
Senator Kerry: (202) 224-2742

Toxics in Shampoo

Why are babies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China and Indonesia being exposed to carcinogens in Johnson's Baby Shampoo when safer alternatives are available in other countries?

Ask J&J to make their products free of formaldehyde!

After finding chemicals linked to cancer in popular kids' bath products – including Johnson's Baby Shampoo – in 2009 the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics asked Johnson & Johnson to reformulate its iconic baby shampoo and specifically to remove the formaldehyde-releasing chemical quaternium-15.

Cosmetics Should be Safe!

Ask your Representative to Co-Sponsor HR2359, the Safe Cosmetics Act!

Did you know right now in the U.S. it's perfectly legal for there to be lead in lipstick and carcinogens in baby shampoo?  Some of these chemicals don't even appear on product labels. This bill (H.R. 2359) would give the Food and Drug Administration the authority it needs to ensure that personal care products are free of harmful substances like lead, 1,4-dioxane and chemicals linked to cancer.
