Protecting our environment means supporting elected officials who share our same concerns. But what if the politicians are choosing who votes for them, rather than the other way around?

Every 10 years, Michigan and other states around the nation go through a process called "redistricting" - the redrawing of lines for congressional, legislative, county board and city council seats. These districts are drawn by elected officials who are often most interested in keeping themselves and their parties in power. 

Although Michigan's lakes, rivers and streams still have some protections against damaging water exports, court decisions trigged by lawsuits from international water companies have eroded our rights to control what happens to our groundwater, the lifeblood of the entire Great Lakes system.
