It's Simple: Back in RGGI for Clean Energy Now!

Wind Turbines

PillButtonBlue - Take action for clean energy - smaller.png

The NJ Environmental Federation is part of a broad coalition calling for a clean energy future in New Jersey that includes continued participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a successful clean energy and clean air program among 10 northeast states to reduce carbon emissions and stimulate the economy.

You can help make a difference by signing our petition and taking action today!

The Problem:

Governor Christie has taken New Jersey out of RGGI, squandering the state's opportunity for over $680 million in funding for clean energy over the next 8 years! On top of this major blow to progress on clean energy and clean air, Gov. Christie has already cut $700 million in clean energy funds in the last three years.

Playing in Safe Fields

soccer

fields free of toxic chemicals

Thanks to the support of NJ Environmental Federation members, we had 46 legislators sign on to co-sponsor the Safe Playing Fields Act (S1143 / A2412) this year. Unfortunately, despite these co-sponsors and the support of parents throughout the state, the vote on this bill continues to be delayed.

We need to send NJ legislators the message that ignoring children's health is unacceptable.

The Safe Playing Fields Act will help protect children from toxic lawn pesticides. These chemicals have been linked in scientific studies to an increased risk of cancer, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and reproductive problems, and children are more vulnerable and exposed than adults*. This historic legislation would finally end the use of these harmful chemicals on playgrounds and ball fields where our kids play.

We can maintain healthy, green playgrounds and ball fields without toxic pesticides. Sustainable, non-toxic lawn/field care methods cost less over time, are effective, and are healthier for both the landscape and our children.

No Fracking in New Jersey

Bedford Gas Drilling

No Fracking Way!

fracking

in new jersey

Hydraulic fracturing-a.k.a. fracking-involves blasting water, chemicals and sand deep into underground rock formations to unlock the natural gas they contain. The risks to our water and our health are greater than industry admits. A single fracking well can result in a million gallons of wastewater laced with carcinogens like benzene and radioactive elements like radium. Take Action! Ask your legislators to co-sponsor two important bills to ban fracking and fracking waterwater in NJ.
