Environmental Injustice: Christie Admin Shilling for Big Oil

Trenton and Newark, NJ - Environmental justice activists cried foul in response to an email sent today from DEP environmental justice staff concerning the status of Hess's controversial plans to build a new gas power plant in Newark's Ironbound section.

Hess has applied for an air permit from DEP for the plant, which would increase the pollution in the area. This is despite DEP having already designated the Ironbound an environmental justice community and Governor Christie's previous commitment to reduce the cumulative impact on low income and minority communities already overburdened with pollution.

Groups Reach Settlement with McKeesport in Gas Drilling Wastewater Dumping Case

 McKeesport agrees to no longer discharge Marcellus wastewater


(Pittsburgh) – Clean Water Action and Three Rivers Waterkeeper filed in federal district court today a settlement of their case against the Municipal Authority of the City of McKeesport.  The two groups had filed a lawsuit in July 2011 under the Clean Water Act seeking an end to McKeesport’s acceptance and discharge of wastewater from Marcellus Shale gas drilling operations.
