Protecting New Jersey's Waters

momsonwaterPromoting clean, safe water from watershed to watertap. Campaigns for safe, affordable drinking water support integrated and innovative water policies to conserve, protect and restore water systems for our communities and environment.

Campaigns:

  • No Hydrofracking
  • Water and Energy
  • Protecting New Jersey's Drinking Water
  • Smart Green and Clean:
21st Century Sustainable Water Management and Green Infrastructure
  • Open Space: Protecting the NJ Highlands and Other Land Resources
  • Pesticide and Fertilizer Free

Successes:

  • Helped to pass one of the strongest fertilizer bills in the nation to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus water pollution statewide with a particular focus on Barnegat Bay, one of the most extensive salt marsh ecosystems on the East Coast. This will reduce the more than 1.4 million pounds of nitrogen compounds that flow into Barnegat Bay every year, which has caused eutrophication, massive algae blooms, jellyfish proliferation, and ecosystem failure.
  • Leader in helping New Jersey adopt landmark clean energy policies, like the Global Warming Response Act of 2007 and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).
  • Helped to pass the NJ Highlands Law to protect the drinking water resource for almost 1 million New Jerseyans.
