we can’t live without clean water. it’s that simple.
But sometimes, the people we elect seem to forget that. They’ve been forgetting it a lot lately in Washington, DC and in too many of our state capitols. But with your support, we keep reminding them how important clean water is… to our health, to our quality of life, to our economy and to our jobs!
This fall marked the 39th anniversary of the Clean Water Act — one of our most successful environmental laws ever! The Clean Water Act has restored lakes, riv-ers and streams around the country to health. Because of this law, the Cuyahoga River doesn’t catch on fire, our Great Lakes have come back to life, and thousands of rivers and streams are healthier now than they’ve been in fifty years! But instead of celebrating our progress, those of us who care about our water find ourselves defending against an all-out assault.
We can’t allow polluters and their allies to get away with this. We need to let them know that sacrificing our water and our future so that polluters can dump their wastes more cheaply is the wrong way to go.
The polluters’ argument that clean water is incompat-ible with prosperity and job creation is flat out wrong.
Clean water saves money and creates jobs… no matter how much polluters would like to return to the days when they could do their business in our water and get away with it.
Next year, I want to be able write to you with better news about our water and with our plans for the Clean Water Act’s 40th anniversary. But first, we need your help to win the battle to defend the Clean Water Act and keep enforcing the laws that protect our water and our health.
Please give as generously as you can to support our work. Use our website to contact your legislators to urge them to support clean water. Finally, learn what your legislators are doing — and then contact them, let-ting them know what you think about their votes.
Our health and our water are at stake…and your support and involvement can make the difference!
Thanks for your support and for all you do!
