Clean Water Action Criticizes House Policy Riders

Washington DC – Clean Water Action is appalled that the leadership of the US House of Representatives appears willing to shut down the federal government in order to win passage of budget riders limiting the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and prohibiting funding for Planned Parenthood.

While recent press reports have indicated that the EPA restrictions may no longer be on the table, the House Republican leadership has brought the federal government close to the brink of shutdown over policy issues that should not be part of budget negotiations.

Protesters: Providence Water Wasting $7.4 Million Each Year and Exceeding EPA Safe Lead Levels

Providence RI – The Lead Pipe Coalition demonstrated outside the headquarters of the Providence Water Supply Board (PWSB) today to protest the water supplier’s partial lead service line replacements. Protestors with the Coalition threw mock dollars into a sink to illustrate how the potentially dangerous practice is also a waste of millions in tax dollars. Providence Mayoral candidate, Angel Taveras, also joined the protest.

Rhode Island Clean Water Action Announces 2010 Candidate Endorsements

Providence—Clean Water Action is proud to announce our initial list of endorsed candidates for the 2010 city, state, and federal elections.

"Rhode Island voters have a real opportunity to support environmental candidates this year," said Sheila Dormody, Rhode Island director of Clean Water Action. "Rhode Island needs more leaders who will take action to promote clean renewable energy, create green jobs, protect our drinking water supply, and fund public transportation. These candidates have earned Clean Water Action's endorsement by demonstrating their commitment to protecting our environment."
