On Monday Governor Whitmer took action to protect our Great Lakes, strengthen Michigan’s response to PFAS contamination, and bring Michigan into the US Climate Alliance. These actions are already under attack and we need you to email your lawmakers today, and urge them to take a stand for our water!
To summarize, the Governor took three actions:
- Executive Order 2019-2, re-organizes the Department of Environmental Quality into the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to help make the agency more responsive to water contamination issues and more able to protect our water resources.
- Executive Order 2019-3, strengthens the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team, which will continue working to identify sources of PFAS contamination, inform the public about PFAS, and protect drinking water sources.
- Executive Directive 2019-12, makes Michigan the 20th state to join the US Climate Alliance, which is a bipartisan group of governors who are committed to meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement despite federal inaction.
Now, State House and State Senate leadership are working to introduce resolutions to reverse or undermine these critical steps. Contact your lawmakers today, and let them know that you are paying attention and want them to oppose these partisan attacks on our most precious resources.
