The livelihood of millions of Californians has been drastically impacted by the pandemic, with many struggling to pay for basic needs such as housing and water. Unable to pay for water utility bills, many families are now drowning in water debt. When the current statewide moratorium on water shutoffs ends, communities could experience mass water shutoffs. A State Water Board report today shows that more than 5 million California residents live in households that are behind in paying their water bills.
Nearly 500,000 Californians lost their drinking water in 2019 because of water shutoffs. Many more could be affected once the moratorium lifts.
We can't let this happen! Take action today!
