We're sad to report our founder, David Zwick, passed away this week at the age of 75, surrounded by family. Our hearts are with them.
Our water is more fishable, swimmable, and drinkable today because of David. He didn't just shine a light on water pollution with the report he co-authored, 'Water Wasteland' ─ he got to work to make our water cleaner and safer. David knew Congress wouldn't pass laws the Clean Water Act on their own ─ they had to be dragged, sometimes kicking and screaming, to do the right thing. David did that.
But David also knew he couldn't do it on his own. He needed people power. He got people involved and mobilized, pioneering door to door canvassing and organizing. David changed the way that we engage with our elected officials. He took the lessons he learned from the fight to pass the Clean Water Act and carried that through his career - passing and strengthening the protections we take for granted today.
David didn't just found an organization, he started a movement that endures to this day. We are all in his debt.
