Clean Water Action Endorses Alberta Griffin for Michigan’s 61st State House District
LANSING- Today, Clean Water Action announced its endorsement of Alberta Griffin for the Michigan House of Representatives.
“Alberta Griffin understands that our state is defined by the Great Lakes and we have a responsibility to protect the 20% of the world’s fresh surface water contained in our lakes," said Mary Brady-Enerson, Clean Water Action Michigan Director. "Throughout her career, and as a community advocate, Griffin has shown her commitment to protecting the Great Lakes and public health. We’re confident that in the State House, Alberta will be a champion on environmental and public health issues,” concluded Brady-Enerson.
Griffin began her career as a Head Start nutritionist and Program Coordinator for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, and she is currently a professor and Thurgood Marshall Doctoral Fellow at Western Michigan University. She believes that access to clean, affordable drinking water is a human right that the state must act to protect. Her opponent on the other hand, voted in to allow corporate oversight of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and voted for a bill that would prohibit Michigan from having any environmental protections stricter than federal minimums.
“Alberta’s environmental priorities include decommissioning Enbridge’s outdated and unnecessary Line 5 pipeline, increasing infrastructure funding to ensure that we can replace every lead service line in Michigan, and making sure that all Michigan residents have access to clean and affordable drinking water. This is the kind of leadership we need in Lansing.” said Brady-Enerson. “We are proud to endorse her campaign for the 61st State House district, and look forward to working with her as a legislator. The choice is clear – Alberta Griffin for Michigan State House.”
