Clean Water Action Endorses Kathie Tovo for Austin City Council, District 9

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Austin – Clean Water Action today announced its first endorsement for this November's Austin City Council elections: Kathie Tovo for District 9.

“Kathie Tovo is a proven environmental champion,” said David Foster, State Director for Clean Water Action. “She has worked tirelessly for better water conservation, renewable energy, and energy efficiency programs, all the while fighting for affordable utility rates.  She was also the lead sponsor on the 2014 council resolution that set up Austin's citizen-led Integrated Water Planning Task Force that is finishing up a sustainable, innovative 100-year water supply plan for the city.” Foster also praised Tovo's lead role in promoting better stormwater controls to protect homes from flooding and improve the quality of water that runs off parking lots, rooftops and other hard surfaces into Austin's creeks. “Austin can count on Kathie Tovo's continued leadership, and we urge our members and other environmental voters to support her re-election,” Foster concluded.

Tovo was first elected to city council under the at-large system in 2011, and was re-elected with Clean Water Action's support under the new 10-1 single-member district system in 2014.

Clean Water Action expects to announce additional endorsements in Austin city council races in the coming days.
