LANSING- Today, Clean Water Action announced its endorsement of Rashida Tlaib for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.

“As a State House Representative and community activist, Rashida Tlaib has been a strong advocate for her community, and for our water and public health,” said Mary Brady-Enerson, Clean Water Action Michigan Director. "We need congressional representatives who know how to fight, and will fiercely protect the natural resources and environmental protections that the Trump administration is intent on destroying,” concluded Brady-Enerson.

As a State House Representative, Rashida Tlaib made headlines by exposing the risks presented by giant piles of petroleum coke, a by-product of refining tar sands, that were being stored in her district. When the state refused to act, she obtained samples of the pet coke, had them tested, and led the efforts to get the piles removed. Over the years, Rashida has advocated for environmental justice in her district, including the 48217 zip code, which has the worst air quality in the United States.

“Rashida’s advocacy on behalf of her constituents and our Great Lakes earned her Clean Water Action’s Great Lakes Champion Award in 2014. In her time in the Michigan State House, she scored 100% on our legislative scorecards each year. It's time for fierce and hardworking advocates like Rashida Tlaib in Congress,” said Brady-Enerson. “We are proud to endorse Rashida’s campaign for the 13th congressional district, and look forward to working with her again as a legislator. The choice is clear – Rashida Tlaib for Congress.”
