There is no time to waste -- Protecting clean water from Day One
Washington DC -- Today the Biden/Harris administration released a list of Trump agency actions to review in accordance with the Executive Order: “Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis.” This list includes the Dirty Water Rule, the weakening of Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, the rollback of strong water pollution limits for power plants, and more.
Clean Water Action’s National Campaigns Director, Lynn Thorp, released the following statement:
“It’s encouraging that the Biden administration recognizes that there is no time to waste. It will take years to repair the damage the previous Administration caused to the bedrock laws that protect our water, air, and health. This executive order is a down-payment. While the Biden administration won’t be able to repeal actions like the Dirty Water Rule or reimpose stringent limits on the toxic waste that coal plants can dump into our lakes and rivers overnight, this list of agency actions to review is a commitment to the bold action we must take to protect our water, safeguard our communities, and tackle the climate crisis. We look forward to working with the Biden administration to repealing these rollbacks as quickly as possible.”
Since our founding during the campaign to pass the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, Clean Water Action has worked to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking and people power to the table.
